Imagine the inspection day when auditors come to our office and account for our output for the whole year. Is it not pressuring? How much more if one day, we face our Creator to give an account of how we lived our lives on earth? There is no need to look far beyond ourselves to understand the real meaning of accountability. First, let us account ourselves as humans "created in the image and likeness of God." Accountability is protecting the nature of God in and through us. We are accountable to reflect His light and truth. As such, our personal choices should not alter God's nature in us. We must be accountable for what we think, say, and do. Whether in the simple choice of food, words, or actions. As they say, "What you accept, eat, or listen to becomes you." A mentor once said, "If everything you receive changes you, what will you turn into? Be careful of who you become." As members of a family, we are accountable to our parents, siblings, and children. As parents consider their children's welfare, children, on the other hand, must be accountable to their parents even as they grow older. Such are natural obligations that do not need to be codified into laws. Furthermore, as members of a community, we are accountable to our neighbors. Far from the principle of "to each his own," we cannot say that we are not affected by what our neighbors build or do. In fact, the Word says, "When I say to a wicked person, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood." Lack of accountability leads to corruption. From the very nature of man, defilement can flow. A thief, no matter what is given him, remains a thief. No matter where you put him in life, he will steal nonetheless. In the workplace, a worker's lack of accountability leads to the waste of office supplies, public funds, and public trust. This leads to the denial of the quality service that the Filipino people deserve. That is the reason why the 1987 Philippine Constitution gave primacy to accountability. As such, commissions and offices were created to ensure accountability in public service, just like the Commission on Audit and the Office of the Ombudsman. Let us consider the little things we do in every sphere of our influence—at home, in our society, in our workplace, and in our nation. To what extent have we be ACTION PLAN
DECLARATIONWe are made in the image and likeness of God. He is holy and perfect, and so we must be. From now on, we will hold ourselves accountable for whatever we hear, say, or do. In whatever aspect of life, personal or public, we will live with accountability. In our workplace, we hold ourselves accountable for how we use our resources, deliver services to clients, and manage our time. So help us, God. PRAYEROur Father in Heaven, thank You for teaching us accountability so that we can be responsible for our actions. Conform us into Your image and likeness more and more so that we can have dominion over everything—first over our lives, over our agency, and then over our nation. Let every blameful attitude in us be removed. Grant us the courage to own our actions and to be accountable, obedient, and righteous. Raise us in such a way that when people look at us, they will see Your good works and glorify You. Let the Holy Spirit have His way. In the Name of our Most High God, amen.
