2026 Week 23 Filipino Value Focus: LEADERSHIP

Leadership is the ability to spearhead an activity, program, or cause for others to achieve a specific goal. It entails stature, capacity, and an overcoming perspective. As a corollary, a person who is easily shaken by circumstances and adversity may lack the stature to lead. One who reacts poorly and is easily rattled by problems must build their capacity for leadership. In the same vein, they must assess his perspective to stand firm in the heat of battle. Leaders pay the price and clear the pathway for others to enter into their destinies. They make things easier for the next generation to rise. They break the fallow grounds and chart the course amidst uncharted waters. They pioneer a certain move and set the trends for others to follow.

Understanding this, we can realize that leadership is more than just an art, a position, or a title. It entails gifts and graces in operation. It is not just about having high educational attainment, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It also requires preparation on the inside to handle big responsibilities. One may be an expert in people management and the rudiments of administration based solely on theory, but collapse in practice. Some people placed in leadership may burst out on the playing field and become crushed by overbearing burdens and intense pressures. The rule thus remains that a novice must not be hastily put in a leadership position, and the one who aspires to it must be willing to sacrifice and ready to pay the price coupled with it.

Moses in the Bible exemplifies this value. He was a prince of Egypt before his voluntary exile to the land of Midian. As a prince, he was well taught. He was equipped with skills and talents. He was an expert in different fields. However, he was further processed by God in the wilderness for forty years; only after that long period of honing and pruning was he ready to lead. It was when he possessed the required characteristics that God summoned him to do a great task. It proved that his societal status and educational attainment were not enough to lead the Israelites, nor was it his own strength or might.

Leadership is not for personal aggrandizement or domination. It is ruling with accountability and selflessness. To lead entails selfless love and service to people. As they say in the movies, "With great power comes great responsibility," and this is also true in leadership. If you want to be great, be the servant of all.

ACTION PLAN

List down the leadership qualities that you want to possess and identify some steps on how you may achieve them. Every week, check ourselves to see whether we are meeting all the qualities we have listed down.
If we are parents, elder siblings, or the head of the household, we should reflect on the areas where we failed as leaders and try to make up for them.
If we are leaders of certain organizations or associations, what legacy do we want to leave to our members, and what lasting programs and projects do we want to implement in our community or society? List them down and have a strategic plan to accomplish them.

DECLARATION

We are the leaders this nation is looking for. We will do our best with God's help. We will not compromise and never lower the standard of righteousness. We will stand firm in upholding divine principles and the rule of law. We will set the example and model what we teach and direct. We will carry upon ourselves the manner and conduct of an excellent leader. People will respect us not because they fear us but because they honor and love us.

PRAYER

God, help us become good leaders to the people under our supervision. Build in us the character and qualities of excellent leaders. Help us not to abuse our authority or to see our position as a source of power to debase or oppress others. You are the leader and ruler of our lives. Help us follow and obey Your statutes. Lead us always, oh God, towards the fulfillment of Your plans and promises. Make us good followers of You that we may become good leaders. Amen.

We can’t deny the fact that poverty is real. Difficulties and struggles isn’t easy to solve. It is not always about material things that other people needs. Sometimes, support, motivation and inspiration is what they need in order to move forward to whatever they are going through. Like what Bukhari said “Your smile for your brother is a charity. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is a charity. Your guidance of a person who is lost is a charity.” Everything we do for other people whether we act or give material things, it is charity, and charity can help an individual to feel the relief from the difficulties that they experience.

I grew up with a mindset of helping people who are less fortunate, and who are those in need. It's just that I am willing to help but I wasn't capable enough to send some help financially, but I've realized that it's not about money, it's about the kindness you can give to someone who needed it the most. Life is too short, why not live it to the fullest? Let's help one another, especially those who are in need. Let's be their light in their darkness. Let's give them hope, life must go on no matter how difficult it is. What I've realized is, that helping those who struggle the most is heart-fulfilling, and I think it's true that seeing them smile is worth the risk and sacrifices. And one more thing helping others without asking for any exchange is priceless. Let's be kind to everyone let's say that we see and encounter life differently. It's rare to have a pure heart and I am sure that every one of us could turn our hearts into pure.

After reading this, I've learned that giving gives a deeper meaning to life and helps us see our purpose to the people in our society. So, whatever it is that you care about, there will be a charity working on it. Charities help in lots of different ways, but the main ways are by raising awareness of an issue, or providing direct help.

I had a lot of realization on this verse. Our wants may not be fulfilled all the time, but there are a lots of people who are in a tougher situation who wish to be in our position. To simply get by in a day without worrying about their food, shelter, etc.. because of that I am encourage to help the people who are in a tough situation in my own ways, as inspired by the action plans written, instead of prioritizing my wants. In contrast to the situation for the rich idiot, where his money was not enjoyed by him but by those who inherited his fortune, the treasure in heaven is ours and will not be passed on to others.

Jesus encourages his followers to intentionally put themselves in a position where they may need him in addition to simply having faith in him. Sell your possessions, donate the proceeds to those in greater need than yourself, and have faith in God. Only his resources are sufficient and limitless enough to continuously meet all of our needs.
Maybe we are like the person holding the hefty bag of one pound coins who lowers it to take the bag of 50 pound notes that was being held by the other person.

In our case we are unable to provide the best and excellent service due to shortage of personnel and resources. We regularly base our requests on actual needs and standards, yet they are consistently denied without proper justification.

Despite this, we strive to offer the best service possible to our clients, as we believe in excellent service, but our capabilities are limited.

We just hope that the administration or those in higher positions of authority, supports the mandate of those in the frontline services in order for our organization to provide EXCELLENT SERVICE to our stakeholders.
