2023 Week 49 Filipino Value Focus: #SELFLESSNESS

An excerpt from the Philippine National anthem and it says: “Aming ligaya, na pag may mang-aapi, Ang mamatay ng dahil sa iyo.” (But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged, for us, thy sons, to suffer and die.)

We all have the mandate to build the nation accurately. To fulfill this task, we have to lay down our private interests and personal agenda. Laying down one’s life for the sake of the nation and others is an act of giving, which is one of the enigmas to living a life filled with joy and fulfillment. Giving is the key to success, meaning, and purpose. It profits others for they are uplifted and in return will also benefit us. Time and experience have taught us that a single act of giving can impact other people. We may not be acknowledged nor commended, but we know that there are good results, whether seen or unseen. Nevertheless, we have to exercise selflessness in faith, love, humility, and in all righteousness. We must be confident that every action counts; great or otherwise, noticeable or not. We must know deep within our hearts and we must believe that it will make a difference.

Selflessness helps us direct our focus outwards and off ourselves. It is a lifestyle and not just a seasonal action. Being selfless means we open a gateway for others to breakthrough above and beyond their limitations - spiritually, physically, emotionally, Financially, mentally, socially and all other areas of their lives. On the other hand, we have to remember that the virtue of selflessness leads to abundant life on the part of the giver. Whatever we sow, we will also reap in thirty, sixty or a hundredfold as promised by our God who demonstrated the perfect pattern of being selfless.

Denzel Washington, an American actor once said, “At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have, or even what you have accomplished. It’s all about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” As public servants who have pledged our selfless service to the Filipino people, let us always be reminded of this phrase, “Hindi ko gagamitin ang aking panunungkulan sa sarili kong kapakanan”. As citizens of this beloved nation, let’s selflessly make a difference in the lives of others and to the progress of our Nation. Instead of saying, “...ang mamatay ng dahil sa iyo…” , we proclaim, “…ang magmahal ng dahil sa iyo...”

ACTION PLAN

Commit to the public over and above our private and personal interests.
Be just and sincere at all times; be responsive and humanely sensitive to the people around us.
Practice good stewardship of the resources entrusted to us; respect authority and honor everyone to nurture relationships

DECLARATION

We are men and women imbued with selflessness. We have the power to redeem and restore the land through selfless acts. By laying down our lives for the sake of God, country and fellow people, we execute an authority to break the cycles of defeat and decay in our society, workplace and family brought by selfish interest nature. As God worked through our founding fathers who laid their lives in establishing this great nation, we also present and lay down our lives to bring the nation to its destiny. The Philippines is forevermore blessed

PRAYER

Almighty God, teach us to be selfless. Help us care, build and love one another. Allow us to unite through fellowship so that in all, we move as one towards progress and prosperity. Intertwine our hearts with You so that we will feel Your heart for our nation, and carefully establish them as how You desire. Put a bar against division and factionalism, and embed on us one heart, one mind, one purpose and one spirit to love You and our nation . These we ask in the name of our Lord, Amen

We can’t deny the fact that poverty is real. Difficulties and struggles isn’t easy to solve. It is not always about material things that other people needs. Sometimes, support, motivation and inspiration is what they need in order to move forward to whatever they are going through. Like what Bukhari said “Your smile for your brother is a charity. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is a charity. Your guidance of a person who is lost is a charity.” Everything we do for other people whether we act or give material things, it is charity, and charity can help an individual to feel the relief from the difficulties that they experience.

I grew up with a mindset of helping people who are less fortunate, and who are those in need. It's just that I am willing to help but I wasn't capable enough to send some help financially, but I've realized that it's not about money, it's about the kindness you can give to someone who needed it the most. Life is too short, why not live it to the fullest? Let's help one another, especially those who are in need. Let's be their light in their darkness. Let's give them hope, life must go on no matter how difficult it is. What I've realized is, that helping those who struggle the most is heart-fulfilling, and I think it's true that seeing them smile is worth the risk and sacrifices. And one more thing helping others without asking for any exchange is priceless. Let's be kind to everyone let's say that we see and encounter life differently. It's rare to have a pure heart and I am sure that every one of us could turn our hearts into pure.

After reading this, I've learned that giving gives a deeper meaning to life and helps us see our purpose to the people in our society. So, whatever it is that you care about, there will be a charity working on it. I had a lot of realization on this verse. Our wants may not be fulfilled all the time, but there are a lots of people who are in a tougher situation who wish to be in our position. To simply get by in a day without worrying about their food, shelter, etc.. because of that I am encourage to help the people who are in a tough situation in my own ways, as inspired by the action plans written, instead of prioritizing my wants. In contrast to the situation for the rich idiot, where his money was not enjoyed by him but by those who inherited his fortune, the treasure in heaven is ours and will not be passed on to others.

Jesus encourages his followers to intentionally put themselves in a position where they may need him in addition to simply having faith in him. Sell your possessions, donate the proceeds to those in greater need than yourself, and have faith in God. Only his resources are sufficient and limitless enough to continuously meet all of our needs.
Maybe we are like the person holding the hefty bag of one pound coins who lowers it to take the bag of 50 pound notes that was being held by the other person.

In our case we are unable to provide the best and excellent service due to shortage of personnel and resources. We regularly base our requests on actual needs and standards, yet they are consistently denied without proper justification.

Despite this, we strive to offer the best service possible to our clients, as we believe in excellent service, but our capabilities are limited.

We just hope that the administration or those in higher positions of authority, supports the mandate of those in the frontline services in order for our organization to provide EXCELLENT SERVICE to our stakeholders.
